GOTHENBURG: a flexible CMS for the new millennium

Posted by Charlotte Boström on June 4, 2008 at 3:02 PM
After 20 years with an old-fashioned Content Managemant System (CMS), Singapore Press Holdings changed its workflow completely, adding two completely new CMS, according to Geoffrey Pereira, Head of Editorial Systems at the company, who spoke at the 15th World Editors Forum.

In 2007, the Singapore Press Holdings implemented two new CMS: For writing, editing and page layout they chose Hermes, and for photo and graphics IBMs Nica was chosen.
Pereira explained that the CMS are designed primarily for print media, but that they still work well with new media in an integrated print and online newsroom. With workflow practices set in stone after 20 years of working with the same CMS, the installation of Hermes and Nica caused the newsroom to drastically rethink its workflow.

According to Pereira, the advantages of Hermes are its flexibility, that it is Adobe neutral, that it requires short training time (only two days of training for reporters), because of its On-Site Configuration, and finally that the program is relatively cheap.
