ClipBlast!, a web wide video search, announced that it is indexing video content from U.S. political newspaper The Hill's video channel, HillTube. The content will stream videos from the site's popular features Leading the News, Opinion, and Capital Living.
"Online video is playing an unprecedented role in strategy and analysis for the primaries and the upcoming national elections," said Jennifer Yingling, Deputy Managing Editor of The Hill. "During the 2006 election cycle, YouTube and other user-generated video sites shaped the outcome of several key races. That influence has only grown in the intervening two years."
The Hill, which is a subsidiary of News Communications Inc., has a print circulation above 21,000. It covers the inner-workings of Congress as well as the connection between politics and business.
A ClipBlast!/Synovate survey found (from 1,000 online consumers) that 29.5% expected to get their political news from web videos this election season. 22% expected to get their news from debates online, and another 7.5% from video bloggers.
"We're delighted to provide live indexing of video content from The Hill, and to bring its in-depth political coverage to audiences who may not otherwise have experienced it," said Gary Baker, ClipBlast! Founder and CEO.
With this increasing trend of more users getting their news from online videos, newspapers could partner with video sites to add on their news sites an alternative method to bring their news to readers.
