Valentine’s Day: Canadian readers engaged by newspapers, Chicago Tribune brings in UGC video

A ‘Valentine’s Day’ survey carried out by the Canadian Newspaper Association found that 61% of readers would rather look at ads in newspapers than on TV if given the choice.

Almost half of respondents (45%) said there are days when they read the newspaper as much for the ads as for the content.

66% of respondents said they enjoy the page advertising and product inserts that are included in newspapers.

Perhaps of more interest in the realm of editorial choices, the Chicago Tribune in the US opened its ChicagoLive website to user-generated videos featuring Valentines and greetings.

The content is still set apart from the news site, but user-generated content and video are increasingly used by newspapers, both online and in print. Have a look.
