US: Nielsen to measure online video consumption

Posted by Barbara Nguyen on February 13, 2008 at 11:37 AM
With online video viewers forecasted to increase from 114 million in 2006 to 183 million in 2011, according to figures from eMarketer, Nielsen said it will ‘introduce measurement of TV viewing on the PC screen in its TV panel by the end of 2008,” reports the European Journalism Centre.

emarketer.gifNielsen looks to measure a variety of video viewing mediums—from traditional TV screens to online, mobile phone and even IPOD displays.

The task, however, will be difficult as the way in which people watch programs or video content tends to vary depending on the medium, suggests the EJC. Nielsen appears to accept the challenge as the need to measure and study audience behavior across a diverse range of viewing platforms becomes increasingly important.
