US: Local CitJ Triblocal expects more growth in 2008

Tribune Co. is to continue the roll out of Triblocal, its successful print-online community papers. After recently expanding the service to 21 microsites, Triblocal is expected to reach 35 microzone sites and publish eight print newspapers in 2008.

Triblocal was among the first to use Kodak’s Microzone Publishing Solution in order to reach localized groups of readers and advertisers. Kodak’s solution enables local readers to submit stories, pictures and community event listings, while also giving advertisers the possibility to create and place ads, as well as manage them. The solution also enables newspapers to aggregate the community content, edit it, and assemble it in a print and online layout. The strategy has proved successful for all parties until now.

"In expanding Triblocal, we looked to add suburbs based on an affinity between communities derived from schools, shopping and other resources," said editor Kyle Leonard in a statement.

Kodak said it was in discussions with other Tribune properties, as well as other newspapers, to implement their solution.
