Bolivia: first citizen journalism site launched
Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on January 21, 2008 at 5:04 PM
The newly launched AhoraBolivia.com reportedly constitutes Bolivia’s first foray into citizen journalism. The site aims to create a user-generated online newspaper.
The site was founded by two young journalists and bloggers, Sebastián Molina and Rosa Jiménez Cano, who have been involved in digital media and citizen participation both in Bolivia and Spain.
“We want to, in a selfless and free way, create an authentic citizen newspaper in which the voices of the citizens of Bolivia may be heard; free voices and voices committed to freedom. Voices that create unity in a country rich in resources and culture,” they said.
The citizen site will certainly help to provide an alternative to the news coverage of mainstream media.
