Topix to create quick-fire news pages
Posted by Evan Fell on December 6, 2007 at 12:28 PM
Topix, an online news and community network, is reportedly in talks with online news publishers about expanding the use of its hyper-local editing platform to create quick-fire news pages.
On the new platform, users would be able to register as an editor of a specific news page. This would then give them access and editing rights to news from a ‘wire’ of published articles that were related to their area of interest.
The new system also allows the editors to write new articles and add content and sources from outside of Topix's search facility, which enables the creation of on-the-go pages of issue and location based news.
Topix CEO Chris Tolles said the goal of the site would be to allow 'people who care about a topic with the ability to cover it' the tools to provide in-depth local news coverage without news companies having to deploy more full-time staff to these areas.
