17 more newspapers have joined the Yahoo Inc. group of online publishing partners. The Columbus Dispatch along with 16 New York Times owned regional newspapers joined the consortium.

The first goal of the partnership, which has been running for a year, was to integrate the online help-wanted classified advertising listing of newspapers with Yahoo's online job search database, HotJobs. For newspapers, this is a way to see more revenue from advertising. 337 papers from the partnership have already launched this aspect with others launching soon.

In 2008, newspapers in the Yahoo partnership will have access to sign up for a Yahoo-run system that will serve advertising to Web viewers. Members can also share headlines with Yahoo and have Yahoo become the search provider for their sites.

Lem Lloyd
who runs the partnership for Yahoo says that it has been very successful and on schedule. However, major newspaper companies are still missing, such as the numbers one and two by circulation, Gannett and Tribune. The New York Times and The Washington Post Co. also have not joined, saying they need to consider what is best for their specific newspapers.
