Pluck connects traditional media with social networks
Posted by Evan Fell on November 28, 2007 at 5:24 PM
Pluck Corp an online media syndication company that serves over 200 media web sites has announced that it will give traditional media companies the chance to link their sites to online social networks, like MySpace and Facebook.
The service allows readers to leave comments on the news sites, which then show up on their social network profiles, so that their friends can view them. The story commented on as well as the comment would show up in the user’s profile.
This is a way for traditional media to connect with the social networks on which people, especially younger generations that papers are trying to attract to online sites, are spending increasing amounts of time, according to Dave Panos, chief executive of Pluck. It is also a way to build up ad revenue online as it continues to decrease in print.
Many companies have already partnered with Pluck including, Gannett Co Inc, Discovery Communications, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp, Runner's World publisher Rodale, Washington Post Co. and Better Homes & Gardens publisher Meredith Corp.
"People are interested in sharing experiences around news," said Jim Brady, executive editor of The Washington Post Co.'s Web site, washingtonpost.com.
