Yahoo launches SmartAds, a customized advertising platform

Posted by Mica Swyers on July 10, 2007 at 10:56 AM
Internet company Yahoo has launched a new service called Smart Ads, which displays tailored ads to specific, targeted audiences as potential customers.

The advertising platform displays customizable and relevant advertising based on a user’s age, gender, location, and online activities.  The service combines Yahoo’s many features to provide a relevant ad for the user, with both major brand and local advertisers’ information.  Because SmartAds are both targeted and customized for the users, they could allow marketers to reach out even more to potential customers.

Customizable advertising for targeted audiences could encourage more online advertising, which would further push the print-to-online transition for newspapers.  Although Google continues to reign in the world of contextual advertising, Yahoo’s new service will inevitably force further innovation in the field, which is good news for both advertisers and the newspapers that court them.
