Vivian Schiller of NYTimes.com discusses online development

Posted by Mica Swyers on July 9, 2007 at 11:28 AM

In a recent interview with Online Media Daily, Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager of NYTimes.com discussed positive developments and plans for marketing and growth.

  • According to Schiller, TimesSelect has exceeded expectations, with nearly half a million home subscribers (who can access Times Select for free with print subscriptions) plus 220,000 stand-alone subscribers.  The service was recently opened for free to college students, whom Schiller hopes to entice now as future subscribers.
  • Some of The New York Times' key digital marketing efforts include a new travel site, a luxury real estate site, Times Reader, a new mobile site, and special online coverage during the holidays and awards season.
  • A new feature allows users to “segment campaign contributions” by their country of choice, leading the way in developers’ initiatives for interactive features using deep database technologies.
  • To ensure success when considering new online sections, NYTimes.com makes sure that the new development will be an area of editorial strength, will garner advertising, and is not in a niche already dominated by someone else.
  • Counteracting all the pessimism about the future of newspapers, Schiller revealed that there was more innovation at the Times than ever before.  She added, however, that The Times has focused on rebalancing business focus and shifting towards digital initiatives.

“It’s critical to be available on any medium that anybody’s every going to want.  That’s our focus…that and hiring smart technologists, who we can’t bring in fast enough,” added Schiller in closing.

The massive mosque would be situated beside the olympic complex and be open in time for the prestigious 2012 olympic games. "It will be something never seen before in this country. It is a mosque for the future as part of the British land". said Abdul Khalique a senior member of Tablighi Jamaat. It will their new UK headquarter. Now the got their one in Dewsbury, Westyorkshire.
What a shame of us when they don't allow us to build a Church in Saudi Arabia!!!
We have to protect our country from the enemy of Christian. So we have to stand together and have to protest to the government so they may cancel this project for good.

Good luck to the B.N.P.

In the uk we call it freedom of expression and democracy at work. The BNP have every right to reproduce already printed cartoons alongside photos of muslim extremists calling for blood of the unbelievers. Perhaps the gutless british media should take a lesson from the British national party.

the question is and the leaflet says which do you find most offensive? The cartoon or Muslim demonstrators calling for terrorist attacks on Europe?"
