The predicted success of e-paper

Posted by Mica Swyers on July 13, 2007 at 9:23 AM
According to market researchers, the value of e-paper should double from £980 million ($2 billion) in 2012 to £1.98 billion in 2014, indicating a quick rise in the technology’s popularity and use.

According to research group NanoMarkets, certain markets will quickly adopt e-paper technology. From signage alone, analysts predict £590 million sales by 2014. Other markets such as disposable electronics and mobile phone displays could also buy into e-paper. Companies that succeed in offering affordable, color e-paper products stand to make the most in the coming years.

Although NanoMarkets advocates the use of e-ink in signage, pricing, and sales displays, the rise of the technology could have a significant impact on the newspaper industry.  If e-paper enjoys as much success as analysts are currently predicting, newspapers, along with many other industries, might do well to follow the technology and adapt their products accordingly.
