Pro-am publishing: Getty Images to sell reduced-price photos to self-publishing site
Lulu currently allows users to upload text and images to design, order, and sell publications. Now, users will be able to choose from an additional 100,000 Getty images on a pay-per-use basis, $1 for cover images and 30 cents for photos on inside pages.
"The key thing is that we are looking at new routes to sell images and new places to sell images," said Duncan Beard, sales director for Getty. "Put together with the media trend for user generated content, Lulu.com is a perfect fit."
Getty last month bought Scoopt, a citizen journalism photo agency. Amateur photojournalists can use the site to sell their photos and video to mainstream news organizations, with Scoopt taking a 50% cut.
