India: Children launch community newspaper

Children from Haiderpur, a Delhi slum, have launched a newspaper to discuss local issues and try to influence community decision makers.
The children received training in newspaper reporting in a workshop last year and started the paper in search of better facilities for the community.
The bimonthly paper, Haiderpur Darpan, is currently handwritten but includes technical newspaper elements like interviews and pictures. The first edition covered young people’s issues like violence and parental constraints. The children have posted the paper in the local bus terminal and market.
