Two writers from the Online Journalism Review (OJR), Nora Paul and Laura Ruel, will produce a monthly column on efficient website interfaces and storytelling techniques for the OJR. In their first, they give a basic assessment of today’s online news sources (bottom link).
“The "We Media" mantra has given rise to collaborative community reported news both within and outside mainstream news organizations,” read the column.
Nowadays, news website are distancing themselves from the reproduction of the daily newspaper model, to instead become news aggregators of community information.
Slideshows, programs such as SoundSlides, and other new media platforms are allowing online storytelling techniques to develop into more engaging and interactive forms. Databases, maps, and more are being used to illustrate information.
A few examples of Paul and Ruel’s first assessment. We’ll be looking forward to learn more about it.
