E-Paper receives funding

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on January 8, 2007 at 3:36 PM
Plastic Logic, a British company specialized in e-paper displays, just received $100 million in venture funding. What could it mean for print paper?
Plastic Logic will be building a factory in Dresden, Germany, which should start its production of e-paper in 2008. The screens are projected to display over 4000 colors by 2010, and to have full video ability by 2012.

What about our good old paper? Although there will certainly be resistance to change and die-hard fans of the tree fiber technology, e-paper has begun its journey towards mass production.

How long it will take to become democratically available, and what the market reaction will be, are the factors that will determine the future fate of the print press…

In the long run, even if most of us are currently attached to tactile white sheets, laws of economics and the gradually lower cost of e-paper should prime.
