Photo sharing site Scoopt poaches Flickr users

Posted by Allie Judson on December 6, 2006 at 11:39 AM
The citizen journalism picture site Scoopt is working on buying pictures from Yahoo picture sharing site Flickr users. Users will be able to tag their pictures to Scoopt who can then sort through photos and distribute them accordingly.

Currently, Flickr members are restricted from marketing and selling photos on the site. This open invitation from Scoopt to distribute and pay for photos comes directly following the launch of Yahoo’s You Witness News site dedicated to user-generated videos and pictures.

"What we are doing is going straight to them and saying 'all you have to do is just to tag and join Scoopt.'” said Kyle MacRae, Scoopt founder. “By doing that they are giving us permission to take pictures from Flickr if there is the demand."
