BBC 'Most Popular Now' page ranks most-read stories by region

Posted by Maddie Hanna on June 14, 2006 at 3:44 PM
Many newspapers now have “most e-mailed” boxes on their Web sites, but the BBC has further developed the feature with its “Most Popular Now” page that ranks the most viewed stories and video clips, breaking the hour-by-hour listing down by different regions around the world.

Click on North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia or Australia and the top 10 read and e-mailed stories come up, along with information on the day’s news consumption in that region, thanks to a news traffic monitor that compares the daily views to overall patterns.

Pete Clifton, head of BBC News Interactive: “This is a fascinating new service for our millions of readers — they will be able to see exactly what people are reading and watching in any part of the world in real-time. We have a huge amount of information about our traffic and it makes sense that we share it with the audience.”
