Germany: New trends in podcasting

Posted by Anna-Maria Mende on May 26, 2006 at 4:17 PM

A "Podcastday" was part of a media conference in Cologne, Germany, last week. Podcasters and media experts discussed trends and potentials of podcasting, reports Die Welt. One and a half year after the first audiobloggers started podcasting in Germany, the podcasting scene is striving for different goals. Some want to earn money by advertising spots and sponsoring, others just want to have fun. And still others, especially marketing and PR experts or TV and radio professionals, but also teachers, begin to take an interest in podcasting.

Videopodcaster Gabe McIntyre criticized that audio and videoblogs by traditional media often only include a repetition of what was shown in TV or played in the radio. In contrast, Peter Kloeppel, news anchor at broadcaster RTL, claimed that the RTL podcasts are so successful, because users are looking for news brands they can trust in.

Also Annik Rubens (her real name is Larissa Vassilian) was among the participants. She became famous through her podcast "Schlaflos in München (=Sleepless in Munich)" and presented her new podcastbook.

Podcasting will also be a topic at the 13th World Editors Forum, to be held in Moscow, Russia, from 4 to 7 June 2006. Newspaper editors attending the conference will have the opportunity to experience podcasting in a Editors Weblog Workshop
