Yet this relative ‘belatedness’ doesn’t prevent Le Monde and LeMonde.fr from being considered by many as the French quality newspaper of record, and being second among national news sites for time spent and first for number of unique visitors. Why isn't Le Monde integrated? How does it keep both operations running smoothly? Australian cricket boycotted by international media

International news agencies did not cover the first cricket test match between Australia and Sri Lanka because of continued disputes with Cricket Australia over terms of accreditation. The match started without agreements between Cricket Australia and a coalition of media organizations which includes The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse and Reuters.

Leading news agencies have come together to announce that they suspended coverage of the rugby World Cup, which is to start tomorrow in France. Faced with pressure from sponsors, it’s hard to imagine the International Rugby Board (IRB) will let this happen.

News organizations and associations have been engaged in fiery discussions with the International Rugby Board (IRB) over their coverage rights of the Rugby World Cup, to start on Sep 7. After both parties met in Dublin on Aug 16, it seemed like the IRB had conceded to most of the news organizations’ demands. But in a thriller-like evolution, the IRB backed off from its concession concerning life-long image copyrights, considered as a deal breaker by some of the news agencies. WAN: Australian Football League’s restrictions are “a dangerous erosion” of independent press coverage

In a letter to Australian Football League president Andrew Demetriou, Timothy Balding, CEO of WAN, has protested the AFL’s ban on photographers from global and foreign newspapers during its events.  Balding calls the restrictions a “dangerous erosion of press freedom” which could have serious implications for global sports coverage if other sports bodies adopt similar policies.

WAN protests against rugby and Australian football media restrictions

The World Association of Newspapers and a coalition of the world's leading news agencies today protested against severe restrictions placed on press coverage of this year's Rugby World Cup in France, and said the restrictions imposed by the International Rugby Board "are a serious breach of freedom of the press."
