As the
Editors Weblog reported earlier, British investor
David Montgomery, former Mirror Group chief executive, with his Mecom Group and partner investment firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson started buying into the German newspaper market: They bought the
Berliner Verlag, publisher of the daily newspapers
Berliner Zeitung and
Berliner Kurier, in October 2005 (see
former posting) and the Hamburg based tabloid
Hamburger Morgenpost in January this year (see
previous posting).
The two are now part of the new group BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding. The take-overs, especially this of the Berliner Verlag, were accompanied by protests from staff and journalists (see
former posting). So what is the situation today?
