BBC to revamp website

Already considered a portal years beyond the present norm, the BBC website will soon be undergoing renovations to improve its services. Sharing a platform with Bill Gates at the MixO6 conference, Ashley Highfield, director of BBC’s new media division, gave a brief outline of the BCC's plans.
BBC plans to work with technology firms like Microsoft to improve their online services, such as BBC’s Intgrated Media Player (IMP), which allows user seven-day access to TV shows.
"Audience needs are changing. They want to consume media on their own terms, anytime, anyplace, anyhow," Mr Highfield told the audience at the Microsoft Mix06 conference.Mr.Highfield said “We have a duty of universality, so it's vital that we innovate through a number of strategic partnerships.”
In conjunction with Microsoft Windows and other major media players and operating systems, BBC plans to create potential home entertainment solutions using their network and the web.
"We have a duty of universality, so it's vital that we innovate through a number of strategic partnerships with technology companies and distributors such as Microsoft, Apple, Sony, Homechoice, NTL and Telewest," he said.
Microsoft's Bill Gates also spoke at the conference addressing the challenges facing companies involved in online business.
"As the internet becomes an increasingly powerful way for companies to interact with customers, software and services provide almost unlimited opportunities to extend those interactions," Gates said.
