US: Spot.us tests "community-funded journalism"
Posted by Alisa Zykova on August 25, 2008 at 8:28 AM
The non-profit site Spot.us is testing out "community-funded journalism" in the San Francisco Bay region by letting people hire and pay journalists to write up investigative articles.
People who wish for stories to be pursued have to pay all the reporting costs upfront. Although anybody can suggest a story, it is the site's editors who decide what stories to follow.
Spot.us intends to publish the investigative stories online and may sell newspapers the exclusive rights to an article.
