According to a press release from PRNewswire, the citizen journalism website NowPublic has added three news features, which include "a member ranking system, a presence stream and a news dashboard."
The presence stream includes user-generated content from external outlets such as YouTube being fed to the site. Users are "able to create a customized news dashboard" with photos, videos or text from sources.
The company received funding from "Rho Ventures, Rho Canada, Brightspark, GrowthWorks and members of the New York Angels". The contributing journalists come from over" 5, 500 cities and 160 countries."
Leonard Brady, CEO of NowPublic, said, " Other participatory news networks lack a means of gauging an article's relevance, resulting in extraneous news and hindering the credibility of some of the best citizen reporters out there."
