Wall Street Journal splits news desk into general and corporate

The Wall Street Journal is changing how they edit news and how they structure the news desk. The desk will be organized into two parts, according to a WSJ staff announcement. Both news desks will serve print and online.

The general news desk will:
- focus on economic subjects from around the world, those that usually appear in the A section of print edition.
- cover news about education, religion, science, philanthropy, and more.

 The corporate news desk will:
- focus on corporate and business news on companies, management and strategy, technology, media and marketing and the art of business.
- work on an enlarged Marketplace section of the print paper, which will include "all that matters in business news each day," according to the announcement.

Also, Matt Murray will become general news editor, who will be responsible for the newspaper's front section and leading the integration of online and print news desks. Elyse Tanouye will become corporate news editor, responsible for keeping business coverage to its highest standards.

"With the new focus and the addition of space dedicated to business, corporate and general news, the Journal will be stronger than ever," concluded Marcus Brauchli on the announcement.
