Two-thirds of Americans view journalism as "out of touch," new poll shows

67% of Americans feel traditional journalism is not meeting their expectations, a new We Media/ Zogby Interactive poll finds.

Other notable findings include:

-the internet is the top source of news of for almost 50% of Americans. Predictably the 18-29 set were most likely to turn to the internet (55%). Only 35% of over-65s favored online.

-70% feel journalism is important to the "quality of life" in their communities. On the flip side, 64% are dissatisfied with journalism in their communities.

-7% of those aged 18 to 29 said they get most of their news from newspapers, while 17% of those age 65 and older list newspapers as their top source of news and information.

-despite majority dissatisfaction, overall satisfaction with journalism has increased to 35% in this survey from 27% in 2007.

The Zogby Interactive survey of 1,979 adults nationwide was conducted Feb. 20-21, 2008.

Zogby also took part in the Newsroom Barometer survey on newspaper editors' strategies for adapting today's journalism.
