Holland: Citizen journalism site introducing pay-per-view content

skoeps.gifDutch citizen journalism site Skoeps plans to introduce a pay-per-view system for its users in order to better compensate contributors. The new system will launch in two to three months.

Marcel Houtman, manager director of Skoeps International, said the increased revenue for its contributors is intended to promote more contributions and higher traffic to the site, reports Journalism.co.uk.

Skoeps, which has become extremely popular in Holland, already offers a daily €250 reward for best photo or video, and gives contributors 50% of any revenue from contributions sold to other media.

Skoeps intends to stop spending on advertising this year, using the money for its contributors.

The owners of Skoeps will pull the plug next week (May 5). The service is losing too much money.
