US: LA Times editor fired
O’Shea was reportedly fired by publisher David Hiller “over a budgetary disagreement,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
It seems O’Shea opposed making cost cuts that would have potentially been detrimental to LA Times’ coverage of the 2008 elections and Beijing Olympics.
“Mr. Zell doesn’t appear to have been directly involved in the LA Times dispute. Indeed, another person familiar with the situation noted that after Mr. Zell took control, he took steps to decentralize the company, giving the head of each unit more operating autonomy,” reported the Wall Street Journal, before the LA Times wrote about the departure.
