UK: Independent site relaunches, more audio and images

Independent.co.uk has relaunched its site with a new design, improved reader interaction and new features, including commercial services, music downloads and additional picture galleries.

The site was redesigned with the help of Dutch company Getronics.

The Independent's iconic 50 Best features and the daily 10 Best series have been brought together under an IndyBest microsite with exclusive video and audio content.

The site also offers an audio player featuring music from monthly magazine Independent Music, as well as a music download service in partnership with 7 Digital.

Other commercial partners will supply the site with a secondary sports and arts ticketing service, environmental films and an interactive real estate search function.

The relaunch is only the first step of a strategy to revamp online though.

“This is very much the first step of many to come. The technology and platform will create an environment, which allows us to continue to improve content and functionality,” said Bill Swanson, general manager of Independent's New Ventures division.
