News Corp. has confirmed that Robert Thomson will take over as publisher of Dow Jones & Co. and The Wall Street Journal as soon as News Corp.'s purchase of Dow Jones is complete.

Thomson succeeds L. Gordon Crovitz, the outgoing publisher of the financial newspaper.

Since March 2002, Thomson has been working as editor of The Times of London. Before that, he was editor of the U.S. edition of the Financial Times for four years.

Taking Thomson's place as editor of The Times is James Harding, former Times business editor.

In other News Corp. news, Rupert Murdoch has appointed his son James to head all News Corp’s media operations in Europe and Asia. He will also become the satellite broadcaster’s non-executive chairman, taking over the position from his father.

James Murdoch’s new position will allow him to ultimately succeed his father.
