Financial Times' 10 most read stories

FT.com yesterday published its 10 most-read articles in 2007 on its website. The most popular article deals neither with Madeleine McCann nor the appearance of missing canoeist, instead it's an article about the “striking similarities” between America’s current situation and the factors that brought down the Roman empire.

FT's ranking tends to show that attractive headlines make the difference online. The headline writer gave the top article the following title: “Learn from the fall of Rom, US warned.” "Surely that  wording drove more traffic than FT might have gotten with, "US Comptroller General Issues Downbeat Report," noted Editor & Publisher.

The following are the ten most-read stories on FT.com.

1. Learn from the fall of Rome, US warned
2. Chinese military hacked into Pentagon
3. Iran on course for nuclear bomb, EU told
4. Google's goal: to organise your daily life
5. Pelosi backtracks on Armenia 'genocide' bill
6. Industry caught in carbon 'smokescreen'
7. Vista marks end of an era for Microsoft
8. Memo to Obama: win Iowa or lose the race
9. Gates warns on US immigration curbs
10. Globalisation backlash in rich nations

This is in response to Abhinav singh's false acquisition on luzhou Medical college, China
Luzhou Medical college is a 3A ranking in china. Only those hospitals which has the highest ranking have 3A. The Director of respiratory disease is now conducting a research on allergy DNA vaccine. This is one of the example depicting the standard of Medical education our college provides. These kind of distressing comments have come from a student who has never passed any examination (both internal & final) till the day of his admission into this college. The same student has been caught many a times cheating during the examination. Whatever he has quoted is out of his sheer frustration at academic level & inability to face the exam. We are not trying to defend any institution. We are an integral part of it & we know what is the standard here. We are fully aware that many of the students have come through bank loans. There is no cheating on the part of the medical college. If the college authourities are trying to make some money, they would never award heavy scholarships every semester end. You have top come here to see the infrastructure & the facilities provided to our students. Here we are practising the MCI syllabus & for that we need indian faculty. We here have to work under respective departments in colaboration with are fellow chinese teachers. We dont have to give any justification as we are very transparent in our duties here. We also request other students to post their reactions.
Thank you all
