US: ABC News redesigned website

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on November 23, 2007 at 1:46 PM
ABC News launched its redesigned site last week. Some of its changes may be helpful to newspaper website designers.

Among the main changes:

- More space for news. The main news headline area now displays more content, and also offers related material that could be of interest.
- The site got rid of tabs and buttons to privilege one-click headlines (except for a tab to switch between the ‘most emailed’, ‘most viewed’ and ‘most commented’ stories.
- Rolling stocks information was brought back to the homepage.
- Creation of a space on the homepage to highlight most insightful comments on top stories of the day, in the way USA Today displays user comments in its banner.

Most important in ABC News’ redesign was the fact that it followed the recommendations of its users – something all designers should be used to doing by now.
