UK: Associated pays Blairs for its indiscretion
“They have always accepted a certain level of media scrutiny, particularly whilst Tony Blair was prime minister, but ultimately they and their family have the right to a private life," said Graham Atkins, whose firm represented the Blairs.
"In this matter, the photographers over-stepped the mark and this must be a good result for those in the public eye generally."
Perhaps this settlement marks a change of perspective for the British press, which has traditionally been ruthless in its picture-taking and tracking of celebrities.
Yet some pictures are still available on the Mail’s website, showing Cherie Blair sunbathing on a pleasure boat during a holiday in August 2006.
Part of the damages won by the Blairs have already been donated to charities.
