L.A. Times launches blog aimed to communicate with readers

The L.A. Times has just announced several newsroom changes that will allow readers to have significantly more access to the publication. The paper launched a new blog, "Readers' Representative Journal," which aims to inform readers of how editorial decisions are made.
The Journal will include many different features to facilitate communication, for example a Q&A section for reporters and editors to answer the questions of readers. There will be an “Ask a Staffer” section for readers to find out more about a story behind the story and “Whatever happened to…” section where readers can ask reporters for updates on past stories.

Readers will also be able to view a staff directory, the L.A. Times ethics guidelines, and get answers to FAQs about practices both in and outside the newsroom. The "Readers' Representative Journal" will give information on both print and online operations.

"The ongoing changes reflect The Times overarching goal of becoming a more transparent and integrated news organization," said Los Angeles Times editor, James O'Shea. "Most important, we're further opening the lines of communication with our readers and using new ways to make the newsroom more accessible."
