Is journalism school really unnecessary?

Matt Taibbi, a political reporter from Rolling Stone has never had a problem expressing his opinions and his latest is journalism school is a waste of time.
He says, “You don’t need to know anything” to be a journalist and therefore journalism school is unnecessary. Taibbi says, “I can’t believe people actually go to journalism school. You can learn the entire thing in like three days.”

Taibbi says the better option is to go to school for something more concrete, he uses the example of medicine, because journalism really needs people “who know something.”

Taibbi’s hard hit on journalism schools may make sense to some, but in today’s world of developing new media, journalists need to learn the skills necessary to succeed in the future of the industry.
