UK: News designers join in professional network

Press Gazette reports that a trade association has been set up for editorial designers. The Editorial Design Organisation will represent the growing field of news design and graphics.

Executive Creative Director of the non-profit organisation, Jeremy Leslie, said “Whether its in print or online, increasing amount of time is spent on how stuff is design and the importance of design is acknowledged within the companies we work for, but largely ignored outside the industry. We’re interested in helping people understand how editorial design is essentially visual journalism. Other areas of graphic design have less involvement with the content and the message.”

The organisation hopes to launch before the end of the year and will construe programs of talks for media companies and educational institutions revolving around editorial news design.
