Reliability of blogs challenges that of mainstream media?

New surveys have shown the reliability of blogs challenges that of mainstream media. In early 2007 the search engine Technorati found through user testing that readers are less and less likely to distinguish a blog from other mainstream media sites.

Today more and more audiences are using blogs to receive information. A recent report by Technorati showed an increase in the number of non-mainstream blogs in the top 100 most popular information websites.

"For a growing base of users, these are all equally valid sources of news, information, entertainment and gossip, and users are not necessarily discriminating between traditional and new sources" said Graeme Samuel, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

In response to this new trend, newspapers have created blogs moderated by journalists. Recently, The Knoxville News-Sentinel partnered with BlogNetNews.com to direct readers to relevant and reliable blogs.
