UK: Sunday Telegraph editor Wheatcroft resigns

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on September 5, 2007 at 10:27 AM
Patience Wheatcroft resigned as editor of the Sunday Telegraph, yet another spontaneous departure at the Telegraph as the newspaper pursues its road to integration.

She said she had been under pressure to integrate the Sunday Telegraph’s operations with those of the Daily Telegraph to form a seven-day multimedia news operation.

She will be replaced by Ian MacGregor, currently deputy editor of the Daily Telegraph, who will become the fourth editor of The Sunday Telegraph in just over two years.

Daily Telegraph editor Will Lewis will become editor-in-chief of both titles, to further push the integration of news departments.

This is only the latest of a series of staff changes at key positions, including the Telegraph’s design editor, its top editor, and its new media director.
