Due to its views and positions, The Daily Telegraph is traditionally perceived as siding with the Conservative Party.

The paper’s new all-inclusive inclination is illustrated by its new recruitment policy, in an attempt to have staff more representative of the UK’s diversity.

“We are looking for people from a mixture of backgrounds – I think that’s probably a bit different from the past. We’ve got – shock, horror – lots of women joining us. We’ve got people who aren’t white,” said Lewis.

This British-centered strategy opposes those of the Telegraph’s competitors. The Guardian, which has recently put much effort into growing its US-based audience, is soon to launch Guardian America.

“You can look at our competitors and they have gone down a different route by targeting different types of people – either in geographical locations, if you are The Independent or The Guardian, or a segment of society if you are the Mail, or a certain mindset if you are The Times,” said Lewis.

As for the broadsheet format, which the Telegraph has held on to, Lewis said that “all I know is it’s not the miracle cure that everyone had been suggesting it was.”
