The aim of the foundation is promote higher standards of journalism around the world.

In addition to training services, the foundation will provide educational materials to schools and universities, and will organize seminars about vital issues such as press freedom, ethics and women’s status in news media.

The foundation’s services will be offered in English, French, Arabic and Spanish.

It has already trained journalists in Tunisia and in Syria.

"The philosophy underlying our work is that those who benefit from training should be able to pass on what they have learned to their colleagues and to younger generations,” said Robert Halloway, deputy managing editor of the AFP, who will head the foundation.
