Gaza Strip: Attack using TV jeep draws press condemnation
Using the recognized protection of registered press vehicles to their advantage, the four gunmen were able to cross the Israeli-Palestinian border and assault a guard tower in a jeep labeled with English and Arabic press markings.
The FPA condemned the use of the disguised vehicle, worrying that the incident will reduce the protection offered to press vehicles in the future. It also pledged to continue its campaign for the availability of armored press trucks, which it considers “invaluable protection for genuine journalists working in hostile environments.”
A statement released on Sunday by the Palestinian Journalists Association similarly condemned the abuse of press cover which “puts the lives of the journalists in danger…limits their ability to undertake their professional and national duties; and harms their journalistic work, which is protected by international law.”
