US: USAToday website traffic increases 21% since relaunch

Since USAToday.com relaunched with a community “network journalism” focus in March, traffic has increased 21% according to Nielsen/NetRatings, and the total number of registered users has tripled.

USA Today said that total registrations jumped 380% in February and users posted nearly 40,000 comments in March.

The revamped USAToday.com allows registered users to create profiles, blog, comment on all stories, and interact directly with USA Today journalists. There is also a social networking aspect – users can “friend” others, leave them public messages, and post photos and content.

Though some longtime readers at first found the site too busy or confusing, it appears they haven’t dampened others' experiences.
