Turkey: suspects convicted in journalist murder

A nationalist militant, previously convicted for a bombing, confessed to inciting the murder of Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, targeted by nationalists for his Armenian descent and ideas on the Armenian massacre – which he called a genocide.
Yasin Hayal said he had given a gun and mony to the teenager who killed Dink on Jan. 19. The confession could indicate that Dink was killed because of his statements on the massacre-genocide.
''The murder has no political or organizational dimension. The suspect has carried out the murder with nationalistic feelings. He has held discussions with his friend Yasin Hayal on this issue,” said Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah.
Sad news: the loss of a prominent individual is coupled to the resurgence of violence aimed at one of the basic human liberties: freedom of thought and speech.
