Canada: Paper apologizes for false report on Iran
Posted by Maddie Hanna on May 26, 2006 at 10:32 AM
After running a front-page story alleging Iran will force its religious minorities to wear colored badges, Canada’s National Post has apologized for the inaccurate report, admitting, “It is now clear the story is not true.”
The story, which ran last Friday, said a new law would require Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians to identify themselves by yellow, red or blue strips of cloth, respectively. It sparked uproar among officials in Canada, the U.S. and Australia, the AFP reported Wednesday. Comments from the U.S. and Canada drew parallels to Nazi Germany.
But the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman denounced the Post’s report, and a Jewish member of Iran’s parliament called the report “a complete fabrication.”

Shame about the newspaper itself, really.
