The EU moves to ban phrase 'Islamic terrorism' from EU lexicon

The phrase ‘Islamic terrorism,’ or what many beleive to be a “non-emotive lexicon for discussing radicalization,” may be working its way to a blacklist of public communication lexicons. EU officials drafting the guidelines hope the linguistic code of coduct, which will be non-binding, will be endorsed by the European Commission and the European Parliament.

The goal, according to the EU Observer is “to avoid the use of words that could unnecessarily offend Muslims and spark radicalization.” Another word under review is 'Jihad,' which an EU official noted means very different things for Muslims and non-Muslims.

This initiative comes in the wake of the outbreaks and violence throughout the Muslim world in response to the Danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed.
