Job cuts at Scotsman titles

Posted by Dominique Lewis Tuohy on March 9, 2006 at 11:03 AM

45 jobs are set to be eliminated at Scotsman Publications, owned by UK publisher Johnston Press. No editorial jobs are to be lost. Rather, commercial and administrative departments will be affected. Johnston Press yesterday reported a 0.2% increase in revenue. CEO of Johnston Press Tim Bowdler confirmed that the job cuts are not "due to soft advertising revenue." However, he did say that "the trading environment last year proved to be more difficult for the regional press than at any time since the early 90s."

I read the English edition of Deutsche Welle every day. I welcome the translation of selected articles from Spiegel but would like even more extensive coverage. Even so, thanks for this step forward.
