Google News post-beta: advertising on the horizon?
Creator of Google News, Krishna Bharat, announced on the Google weblog yesterday that after three years of existence the English version of the news aggregator has graduated from beta. Rafat Ali at PaidContent asks if Google will now publish advertising on the site.
The "grown-up" site has added an improved personalization feature and Bharat announced that more innovations were in the works. But can the site be monetized by adding advertising?
Rafat seems to think so: "Three years ago, if Google tried that, it would have created some controversy among the content providers...now, post-Topix, RSS etc, it probably won't generate as much heat."
The issue is at the heart of the effects that new media are having on traditional. The Internet may be "stealing" advertising from old media organizations but news aggregators, who essentially use content produced by others, have met resistance from content creators when trying to add advertising to their sites.

More to the point, Google can gain key capabilities by serving low-income customers. These cost and management innovations become strong competitive advantages for a company, regardless of what market they are serving. Thank you very much for all your info.
