US: new editor for the oldest black daily

Houston-born journalist Roland S. Martin was named executive editor of the Chicago Defender, the nation's oldest black daily newspaper. The Chicago Defender will turn 100 in May. Graduate of Yates High School and Texas A&M University, Martin, 35, is also a syndicated columnist. He worked at the Houston Defender, a black newspaper, as well as many other publications and television and radio stations.
