World media watchdog appeals to Russia's Putin over fired reporter
From Agence France Presse: Last week, we posted news about Leonid Parfyonov, the respected Russian television journalist who was fired by his state-controlled network after airing an interview with the widow of a murdered Chechen rebel leader. Now, the International Press Institute has asked Russian President Vladmir Putin to respect freedom of the press: "In light of the censorship of news on Chechnya, IPI is concerned that this action is yet another in a series of moves silencing critical media and limiting the Russian people's right to know what is happening in the war-torn region," IPI said in a press release.
