It was announced today that deputy managing editor of Time Magazine, Josh Tyrangiel, will become the new editor of BusinessWeek magazine, reports MediaBistro. The magazine was recently bought by Bloomberg LP. Tyrangiel will start at editor once the acquisition is finalized.
Former editor, Stephen Adler, announced he would step down soon after the announcement of the acquisition in October.
The weekly magazine is no doubt looking to harness Tyrangiel's expertise of internet promotion. During his time at Time, he was also the managing editor of Time.com. This past year he relaunched the magazine's website and brought its page views up from 400million in 2006 to 1.8billion so far in 2009.
As the new editor, Tyrangiel will be reporting to Norman Pearlstine, Bloomberg's chief content officer, who in turn reports to Matthew Winkler, Bloomberg's editor-in-chief.
According to Peralstine, who previously wokred with Tyrangiel at Time, "Josh is recognized within Time Inc. and its parent, Time Warner Inc., as an 'editor's editor' and a natural leader. His understanding of the ways in which print and online publications can work together will serve Bloomberg well as we expand our consumer media offerings."
Tyrangiel has also worked at Vibe, Rolling Stone, and MTV.
